The ongoing research subjects

  • The comparison of dietetic value of meat of the selected pig breeds.
  • Quality of pork carcasses in compensatory fattening of pigs, with the utilization of various feed additives.
  • Effect of bio-stimulators on the results of rearing, growth rate and slaughter value of pigs of various genotypes and on microflora and morphometric properties of intestines.
  • Effect of reproduction maturity of gilts and condition of sows on the results of reproduction, mammary gland state and the results of progeny rearing.
  • Phenotypic and genetic variation of the conformation traits of pigs evaluated by linear and non-linear methods.
  • The studies on nutritive value of pork meat, obtained in modified conditions of fattening, with the application of different selenium additives in pig nutrition.

  • The effect of the selected feed additives on production results of fatteners and pork quality.
  • The effect of the selected factors of external and internal environment connected with a sow on reproduction indicators and rearing of progeny.
  • The effect of fatness of gilts and sows in production cycle on their reproduction performance, biochemical equilibrium parameters and quality of colostrum and milk.
  • Suidae (suids) – their role in natural environment, protection, utilization in agro-tourism and ecological production.
  • Miniature pigs – accompanying and laboratory animals.

 

Farm of pigs

Pig farm in Experimental Station (RZD) Obory-Wilanów near Konstancin-Jeziorna is the experimental base of the Unit. The size of the farm – 50 sows with progeny. Buildings are equipped with modern feed and manure removal runs, mechanical ventilation, heating system; feed station for sows, three-part parturition pens and 96 individual pens for experimental fatteners with feed dosing system.

 

The range of the rendered services and advisory activity

Unit of Pig Breeding offers a wide spectrum of popularization of scientific studies via training and advisory activity and opinion-issuing and expertises in the following range:

  • Reproduction reserves in basic herd of pigs
  • Improvement of effectiveness of pig production
  • Possibilities of limiting the costs of  fatteners’ production
  • Improvement of the quality of slaughter raw material
  • Management and production of pigs in family farms.

The seminar offer, covering lectures and elaboration of educational materials is directed to Agricultural Extension Centres, Agricultural Chambers, Associations, Pig Producers’ Groups and farmers who keep the pigs.
